Mythology and the Muse

The idea of a muse of inspiration emerges from the mists of time shrouded in mystery and legend.. What are the well-springs of inspiration? There seems to be something magical about it. For the ancients the sources of inspiration were divine. The nine goddesses, daughters of Zeus and Mnemosyne, who preside over the arts and the sciences are muses of inspiration. The idea of invoking a muse suggests longing for a spirit of creativity. Arguably the muse of W. B. Yeats is long time beloved Maud Gonne who inspired many of his poems.
